My Story by Ingun Bol

Ingun - young

June 2020 is the Female Wave of Change Story telling month: Stories matter and we want you to share yours! Today Ingun Bol, founder and president Female Wave of Change, shares her story how she became that drop in the ocean that started those waves of change.

You can be the drop in the ocean that starts waves of change!

As a child I was never really the most popular one, not the funny one, nor the sporty one. I was born in a family with 2 sisters (yes I am the middle one…) and a father who always made himself the center of the universe. His daughters had to behave and do what was expected of them: get good grades, look good, do good at sports, etc.

We had to be there and make him look good. Although I was the most rebellious of the 3 sisters, I also knew very well how to hide, so I could be myself within the walls of my bedroom or in my dreams.

I never really felt it was me!

Yes I did try to be seen, seen by my father; I always performed in the top of my class, did more at school than was expected of me, won competitions at tennis, became the president of the student council at university, graduated top of my class as an engineer, started a great career…but I never really felt it was me! That I was doing what I loved to do, but always acted on what I thought others expected of me …

Not being able to be your authentic you is killing you inside … very slowly but it is doing the trick!

At age 42 and after almost 20 years in the IT industry as a sales and marketing manager, I had my so many-et burn out; at that time I was working long hours because I thought I needed to scatter the glass ceiling but also had a wonderful and loving family with a very supportive husband and 2 wonderful daughters. I realized more and more that my job where I spend so much time, was not making me happy at all but it took so much of the quality time that I could spend with my family.

I was not living MY life and I was the only one who could change it

That burnout made me realize that I was not living MY life and that I was the only one who could change it…I wanted to be me, I wanted to be happy, I wanted to have more time for the people and things in life that really mattered!

I chose to be my authentic self and started living!

Two months later I had quit my job, started my own business, worked from home so could see my girls grow up and be there when they needed me, my physical, emotional and mental health improved, for the first time in my life I felt FREE of a lot of pressure, of expectations, of guilt: I chose to be my authentic self and started living!

You feel you can change the world…and I did!

At that moment I decided I wanted to make an impact, to do positive things: I changed my definition of success! From power and money, it became focused on happiness, health, freedom, impact.

Wow did it change me! Believe me, if you become your authentic you, do the things that you love; you get wings, you can fly, you become unstoppable, you feel you can change the world…and I did!

This is what happened when Female Wave of Change started in 2017; the plan was to organize this one event to create awareness that women had to take responsibility in this world of exponential change to be prepared, to step into their leadership, to lead positive change.

But immediately after the start I felt it was going to be so much bigger when we received messages from women all over the world if they could join us; we found lemons so we made lemonade and started building an organization now represented in over 40 countries. We guide women to step into their authentic feminine leadership, to Reshape the Future and accelerate change to create a better world for all!

I am really proud of that little girl!

If I think back and see that little girl trying to fit in, to behave, to be the one her father, her employer, society wanted her to be and see the change maker, the catalyst she turned into, I am really proud of her! It was because of her decision to be her authentic self, to be the drop in the ocean that started those waves of change.

Whatever your situation right now, whatever your past, you can decide today to transform into your authentic self and be the change in the lives of many people in your family, your community or in the world. The world needs you…NOW.”
